The in-house creative agency of Blade Arthouse Media
KUL/
SHIFT
The footage already exists.
The meaning doesn't.
The meaning doesn't.
KUL/SHIFT creates film, campaign and audiovisual work through selection, montage, sound, color, typography and radical recontextualization of licensed and archival source material.
01 / About
Not footage.
Authorship.
KUL/SHIFT takes its name from the Kuleshov effect: the idea that an image acquires meaning through what surrounds it.
We begin with footage created elsewhere and shift what it does. Through editorial construction, temporal manipulation, reframing, compositing, music supervision, typography and color, source material becomes part of a new authored system. KUL/SHIFT is the in-house creative agency of Blade Arthouse Media, under the creative direction of Terry Blade.
02 / Method
Source material.
Shifted function.
01
Source
Licensed stock, archival material, music, graphics and existing visual assets are treated as raw material—not finished meaning.
02
Displace
We crop, cut, split, reverse, slow, accelerate, recolor, composite, reorder and detach material from its original assumptions.
03
Shift
Image, sound and sequence are recombined until the source performs a different conceptual, emotional or cultural function.
03 / Selected Work
A body of
recontext.
Selected Terry Blade works that reflect the creative methodology behind KUL/SHIFT. Replace or expand these entries as the agency portfolio develops.

04 / Position
We don't make original footage. We make original meaning.
KUL/SHIFT treats pre-existing media as material capable of being moved, interrupted and re-authored. The source is visible. The intervention is the work.
05 / Structure
One house.
Different functions.
